(AUG 2010) MOELVEN WOOD SWEDEN HAS PURCHASED Transvision Route Planner with the purpose of optimising the distribution of wood-based building products and minimising transport costs.
Moelven Wood is a leading supplier of wood-based building, interior and board materials. The Wood division has five production units in Sweden. In 2009, these units, in combination with the nine Norwegian units, generated a turnover of NOK 2,2 million and employed nearly 900 people. Moelven Wood is one of three independent divisions within the Moelven Group. Together, the divisions Wood, Timber and Building Systems provide a full-range supply of wood-based building products and related services for the Scandinavian market.
Moelven Wood has two terminals, situated in Lovene and Töreboda, and the company handles between 60 and 90 orders a day. These orders result in 40-50 truck stops, and approximately 80 % of the goods are delivered to timber merchants, while the remaining goods are delivered to construction sites. The company uses four external trucks, which are specially designed to carry their products. The trucks are first loaded with wood in Lovene and then driven to Töreboda, where wooden lists are loaded onto the trucks. Due to the great distances, it can take up to four days for a truck to complete one route and return to the terminal.
At Moelven Wood, orders are received at the two terminals and entered into two different ERP systems. Transvision Route Planner has not yet been fully implemented, and therefore planning is currently performed manually: First, the orders in Lovene are planned, and then the plan is sent to Töreboda, where the rest of the orders are planned. Manual planning is difficult, and the company found it challenging to avoid overloading because of insufficient route and load planning quality.
With its powerful optimisation engine, Transvision Route Planner is able to help Moelven Wood to reduce planning time and optimise their daily routes and resource utilisation significantly. Moelven Wood will also gain greater transparency in and better control of haulier billing, as Transvision Route Planner provides KPIs regarding driving times, distances and costs. Other important advantages of implementing Transvision Route Planner are the ability to consolidate data coming from the two different ERP systems and the capability of planning automatically and thus more efficiently. In this way, the risk of overloading is also avoided.
Over time, Moelven has a vision of creating new districts and master routes, thereby taking advantage of the full optimisation potential.
Transvision is pleased to be able to assist Moelven in optimising their distribution with Transvision Route Planner and welcomes the future cooperation between the two companies.
